Simone Panella – Dyamotech Founder & Director
At just 16 years old, I received a contract offer from the academy of a prestigious Premiership club in England. Leaving behind my home country, Italy, I set out on a journey to pursue my dream of becoming a professional rugby player.
Rugby became the centre of my world, prompting me to leave behind family and friends, embracing an entirely new chapter of my life in a foreign land without knowing a word of English.
The Unspoken Injury
Throughout my rugby career, concussions were an ever-present concern. It was an injury that nobody discussed openly, yet it affected me in various ways. Many times, after a powerful tackle, I’d feel dizzy, but I considered it just a part of the game, thinking that’s how you should feel after a “good tackle.” Only later did I truly understand the impact of concussions.
The realization made me angry.
Despite reaching the highest level I could possibly dream of as an 18 y.o rugby player from Italy, not even at those levels was anyone able to explain to me what a concussion should feel like or how to respond to it.
A Turning Point
In 2021, after experiencing yet another major concussion, I made the difficult decision to step away from rugby. This marked the beginning of my quest to find a solution that could safeguard my teammates and the young athletes who share the same passion.
Driven by two years of relentless work and unwavering passion, we have crafted a solution that could revolutionize the way we monitor head injuries.
Dyamotech have developed a dedicated head impacts monitoring device for children aged 6 to 16 years old. Our mission is to empower schools and sports organizations by providing them with a comprehensive understanding and control over the number, intensity, and direction of head impacts sustained during activities.
